This report is the first edition of the study “Overview of Patent Activity of Russian Ferrous Metallurgy Enterprises”.
The purpose of the study is to review and analyze patents for inventions and utility models in the ferrous metallurgy of the Russian Federation.
The chronological framework of the study: status as of March 23, 2022, forecast - until 2030.
Research geography: Russia.
This work is a desk study. Rosstat data, industry and regional press materials, annual and quarterly reports of metallurgical companies and individual enterprises, enterprises' websites, scientific and technical literature, and the Infomine database were used as sources of information.
Scope of the study: the report consists of 3 parts, contains 68 pages, including 18 tables, 18 figures and 5 annexes.
The first chapter of the report is devoted to the patent landscape in the ferrous metallurgy of the Russian Federation, indicating the leading metallurgical enterprises in Russia. The corpus of patents of domestic and foreign patent holders is considered separately. A meaningful analysis of Russian patents for inventions and utility models regarding the smelting of steel and iron (subclass C21B of the international patent classification (IPC)) has been carried out.
The second chapter of the report describes the patent portfolios of the leading Russian steel companies: the Severstal, MMK, NLMK, Evraz, Metalloinvest, Mechel and IMH groups. A time-based analysis of the receipt of patent documents, the structure of patent portfolios by sections of activity, abstracts of patents for the smelting of steel and iron (subclass C21B of the international patent classification) are given.
The third chapter of the report is devoted to the analysis of patent prospects and provides a forecast of patent activity until 2030.
The appendices contain a glossary, a list of the main inventions of the Russian Federation, registers of patents and applications for inventions in the field of steel and iron smelting (subclass C21B), as well as contact information for the main metallurgical enterprises in Russia.
