Herbicide Market Research in the CIS
Situation at market of crop protecting agents and, for instance, herbicides in Russia is not in keeping with the national interests and economic security of the country. By now, Russia depends on imports of herbicides, share of which in 2007-2008 exceeded 50% in total volume of the consumption. Situation with provision of Russian producers of herbicides with semiproducts is even worse. For instance, in early 2000s, a facility on production of sodium salt 2,4-D operated in JSC "Ufakhimprom", but now the producers of herbicides depend practically completely on supplies of this and other semis from abroad. At the same time, attempts to organize own (domestic) production failed as yet. Only support of the state can change the situation for the better.
Diammonium Phosphate Market Research in the CIS
As resources for production of ammonium phosphates (ammophos and diammpphos) ammonium and orthophosphoric acid (both wet-process acid and thermal acid), are used. Taking into account features of technologies of ammonium phosphates production, theoretically diammonium phosphate (DAP) can br produced by companies, manufacturing ammophos.
Large-tonnage production of commodity diammonium phosphate in the CIS is currently conducted only in Russia. In addition, the product for internal consumption (in production of complex mineral fertilizers) is manufacturted by Belarussian JSC "Gomel’ chemical plant". In addition, in small volumes, DAP in some years was manufactured by companies of Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
The main producer of DAP in Russia is JSC "Ammophos". In 2007 the enterprise produced 81.4% of total volume of Russian production of the fertilizer. In addition, production of diammonium phosphate is conducted by JSC "Voskresensk mineral fertilizers" (17.7%), and, in small volumes, by LLC "Eurochem-BMU" and JSC "GMZ".
The bulk of diammonium phosphate, produced in Russia, is exported (up to 99%). That is why production of the products depends directly on conjuncture of world market.
The main end-uses are animal breeding (37%), plant breeding (32%), production of mixed mineral fertilizers (21%). The rest is used in production of food yeast, fire retardants.
Broken Stone and Resources Base for its Production Market Research in Russia
By now, experts of "InfoMine" and IKF "ITKOR" estimate capacity of Russian market of broken stone of 210-220 mln m3. The bulk of broken stone is used in building and repair of motor roads. This segment consumes above 60% of broken stone in the country. The second greatest end-use is building industry, where broken stone is used in production of ferroconcrete items and concrete mixes.
From our estimates, in connection with the financial crisis, rates of increasing consumption of broken stone in Russia in 2009-2010 will markedly decrease to 3-5% per year maximum; in unfavorable economic situation, even decreasing the consumption volumes by 1-3% is expected. The main factor, which owes keeping positive dinamics of broken stone consumption in the country in nearest years, is realizing a number of project on creation and development of transport infrastructure. Starting in 2011, we expect increasing rates of consumption of broken stone in connection with mainstreaming of building activity that will result in increasing consumption of the product.
Caustic Soda Market Research in Russia /CIS
In Russia, production caustic soda for the first 10 months of 2008 decreased 0.2% year-on-year to 1065 kt. However, the greatest producer of the product - JSC «Caustic» (Volgograd) increased liquid caustic soda output by 4.6% year-on-year.
In early November 2008, JSC Dneproazot, one of three Ukrainian producers of caustic soda, stopped the production.
For the first 10 months of 2008, GK «Azerkhimiya» (Azerbaijan) produced 18.7 kt of liquid caustic soda, by 70.9% more than in the same period of 2007. Notice however that this sharp growth is in fact only restoring previous volumes: the thing is that in 2007 the production volume dropped almost 2 times compared with 2006 owing to growth of prices on power resources. From estimates of «InfoMine»’s experts, by the end of 2008, production of liquid caustic soda in Azerbaijan will reach 23 kt.
Rebar Market Research in Russia
A feature of rebar market in Russia for the latest several years is increasing imports of rebar with decreasing exports of the product. For the latest 10 years, consumption of rebar in Russia increased 2 times up to almost 5.9 mln t per year.
In spite of world financial crisis and corresponding dropping demand for ferrous metals and decreasing production of rolled steel, including rebar, in Russia, in the opinion of InfoMine’s experts, one can expect increasing consumption of rebar. This will be connected with realizing a number of purposeful programs in the country, including the program on construction of accessible dwelling.
In our opinion, decreasing demand for steel products, including rebar, is temporary phonomenon. The situation can change for the better starting in the second quarter of 2009, and in 2010, one can expect considerable growth of demand for rebar in the country.

Cement Market Research in Russia and Central Federal District
Usage of cement in Russia in 2007 increased by 14% compared with 2006 and exceeded 59.5 mln t that was owed by expanding volumes of construction and erection works in the country. Notice that rates of the cement usage growth considerably outstrip those of increasing its domestic production. As a result, Russian imports of cement in 2007 increased above 2 times compared with 2006 up to 2.3 mln t that is comparable with annual production of medium-size cement plant.
Shortage of domestic cement capacities encourages active expansion of existing cement productions and construction of new cement plants in Russia in latest time. From estimate of InfoMine, in case of realising all declared plans on construction of new plants and expanding available productions,
by 2011 Russian cement industry will be capable to produce annually around 105-110 mln t of cement. In Central Federal District, from expert forecasts, production of cement can increase by 60% up to 25 mln t per year.
Glass-Fiber Plastics and Products from Them Market Research in Russia
Growing usage and expanding range of end-uses of products from glass-fiber plastics, especially in strategic sectors of industry, attract active interest to this market segment. For instance, Saudi Arabia in latest years purchased 15 plants on production of glass-fiber plastics in various countries.
Rates of growth of Russian market of glass-fiber plastic products outstrip those in Europe and the world as a whole in 2-2.5 times. Nevertheless, the Russian market is considered to be at the formation stage only. That is why activity of each player is rather marked and important at the developing market.
In the presented report, our experts have analysed current standing of production and consumption of glass-fiber plastics in Russia, offered scenario of possible development of Russian glass-fiber plastics market in nearest years, presented forecast of the products manufacture by 2012, taking into account effect of imports of items from glass-fiber plastics.
In 2008-2012, one should expect significant changes in the glass-fiber plastics sector in Russia that will form stable equilibrium market of the products (both in consumption and production spheres).
Ceramic and Cement-Sand Tiles Market Research in Russia
Analysis of Russian market of natural tile (ceramic and cement-sand tiles), implemented by InfoMine, shows that in Russia demand for ceramic and cement-sand tiles demonstrates obvious uptrend in latest years.
Ceramic and cement-sand tiles have many advantages compared with other roofing materials. The tiles are characterised by such functional advantages as water impermeability (that is especially important in regions with unfavourable climate), simple and cost-effective mounting, simple to elevate (owing to low weight and suitable package), long life span (from 100 years). In addition, the tiles are frost-resistant, incombustible, have high sound-proofing characteristics and, the most important thing, the tile is environmentally-friendly material.
Russian production of natural tile steadily increases in latest years, first of all, owing to expanding the production by the greatest Russian producer - LLC «BRAAS DCK-1» (Moscow). In 2007, Russian production of ceramic and cement-sand tiles reached 1.3 mln m2 or above 58 kt. From 1997 to 2007, the tile production increased 3.1 times.
Same to domestic production, usage of natural tile in Russia also steadily increases in latest years. From InfoMine estimate, in nearest years, domestic consumption of tile in Russia will continue to grow, both owing to expanding domestic production and owing to increasing imports. Volume of the tile consumption in Russia in 2015 can reach 150-200 kt, versus 72 kt in 2007. In this case, usage of natural tile will grow mainly in sectors of individual building and construction of elite dwelling.
Acrylonitrile market research in CIS
By now, CIS share in European production of acrylonitrile is around 13%.
Leading producer of acrylonitrile in the CIS is LLC "Saratovorgsintez", yielding above 60% of acrylonitrile in the CIS. However, in nearest time, experts of InfoMine expect slight decreasing production of acrylonitrile at the company in connection with short supply of resources (propylene).
Around 50% of acrylonitrile are consumed in production of polyacrylonitrile fibres. A third of the product consumption belongs to production of synthetic rubber. The rest belongs to production of plastics, flocculants, drilling reagents and other products.
