Glass-Fiber Plastics and Products from Them Market Research in Russia
Growing usage and expanding range of end-uses of products from glass-fiber plastics, especially in strategic sectors of industry, attract active interest to this market segment. For instance, Saudi Arabia in latest years purchased 15 plants on production of glass-fiber plastics in various countries.
Rates of growth of Russian market of glass-fiber plastic products outstrip those in Europe and the world as a whole in 2-2.5 times. Nevertheless, the Russian market is considered to be at the formation stage only. That is why activity of each player is rather marked and important at the developing market.
In the presented report, our experts have analysed current standing of production and consumption of glass-fiber plastics in Russia, offered scenario of possible development of Russian glass-fiber plastics market in nearest years, presented forecast of the products manufacture by 2012, taking into account effect of imports of items from glass-fiber plastics.
In 2008-2012, one should expect significant changes in the glass-fiber plastics sector in Russia that will form stable equilibrium market of the products (both in consumption and production spheres).
Ceramic and Cement-Sand Tiles Market Research in Russia
Analysis of Russian market of natural tile (ceramic and cement-sand tiles), implemented by InfoMine, shows that in Russia demand for ceramic and cement-sand tiles demonstrates obvious uptrend in latest years.
Ceramic and cement-sand tiles have many advantages compared with other roofing materials. The tiles are characterised by such functional advantages as water impermeability (that is especially important in regions with unfavourable climate), simple and cost-effective mounting, simple to elevate (owing to low weight and suitable package), long life span (from 100 years). In addition, the tiles are frost-resistant, incombustible, have high sound-proofing characteristics and, the most important thing, the tile is environmentally-friendly material.
Russian production of natural tile steadily increases in latest years, first of all, owing to expanding the production by the greatest Russian producer - LLC «BRAAS DCK-1» (Moscow). In 2007, Russian production of ceramic and cement-sand tiles reached 1.3 mln m2 or above 58 kt. From 1997 to 2007, the tile production increased 3.1 times.
Same to domestic production, usage of natural tile in Russia also steadily increases in latest years. From InfoMine estimate, in nearest years, domestic consumption of tile in Russia will continue to grow, both owing to expanding domestic production and owing to increasing imports. Volume of the tile consumption in Russia in 2015 can reach 150-200 kt, versus 72 kt in 2007. In this case, usage of natural tile will grow mainly in sectors of individual building and construction of elite dwelling.
Acrylonitrile market research in CIS
By now, CIS share in European production of acrylonitrile is around 13%.
Leading producer of acrylonitrile in the CIS is LLC "Saratovorgsintez", yielding above 60% of acrylonitrile in the CIS. However, in nearest time, experts of InfoMine expect slight decreasing production of acrylonitrile at the company in connection with short supply of resources (propylene).
Around 50% of acrylonitrile are consumed in production of polyacrylonitrile fibres. A third of the product consumption belongs to production of synthetic rubber. The rest belongs to production of plastics, flocculants, drilling reagents and other products.
Lubricants Market Research in Russia
From 2000 to 2006, production of lubricating oils in Russia increased 15% up to 3 mln tpy. For the period, share of base oils in the production increased from 12% to 33%, first of all, in connection with expanding base oils exports.
In latest years, domestic consumption of lubricating oils in Russia is around 2-2.1 mln tpy.
In neatest years, lubricants production in Russia is expected to increase: according to InfoMine forecast, by 2010, the production will reach 3.3 mln tpy.
Magnesium Chloride Market Research in the CIS
We expect increasing magnesium chloride production in the CIS in nearest years. The main prerequisite for the growth will become construction a plant on extraction of magnesium metal from bischofite by LLC Rusal-Bischofite. Besides, the growth will be encouraged by commissioning production of new kinds of products at operating enterprises. For instance, in late 2006, LLC Nikomag (at production site of JSC Caustic) commissioned production of solid magnesium chloride. Besides, by the end of 2008, PJSC Bischofite-Avangard plans to complete construction of a plant on processing of bischofite into scaly magnesium chloride (capacity of 100-150,000 tpy MgCl2).
Consumption of magnesium chloride in Russia increased considerably in 2002 with starting applying magnesium chloride as anti-icing agent by communal utilities and road services (first of all, in Moscow and Moscow region). Notice that demand for the product in this case was satisfied at the expense of imports of magnesium chloride. In future, magnesium chloride consumption in Russia will increase, but not at the expense of use in communal utilities and road services, as previously, but first of all owing to application in nonferrous metallurgy – in production of magnesium metal. This will change pattern of domestic consumption of magnesium chloride in Russia and will make it more close to world one.
Lime Market Research in Russia and Central Federal District
Consumption of lime in Russia, according to forecast of InfoMine’s experts, will increase by 2015 by around 60% compared with 2006 up to above 19 mln tpy. The highest rates of increasing the consumption will take place in ferrous metallurgy, production of building materials and chemical industry.
According to estimates of InfoMine’s experts, at present time, average utilization of productive capacities on lime production in Russia is around 80%. In nearest future and medium-term prospects, rates of increasing lime production in Russia will be governed by increasing demand for the product and will average at least 5% per year. In this case, increasing the production volumes will be provided both by commissioning new (or reconstructed) lime plants and by further rising utilization of available productive capacities.
Construction of new lime production (or expanding available ones)
will be conducted mainly at metallurgical integrated works, which plan to expand considerably output of commodity products by 2015, as well as in industry of building materials. At the same time, most of enterprises of chemical, pulp-and-paper and sugar industries has enough reserve of capacities on lime production. At these enterprises, modernization of available productive capacities should be expected, as the facilities are rather worn.

Pitch and Pitch Coke Market Research in the CIS
The main feature of the market in latest years became sharp decline in consumption of pitch coke in production of anode paste by aluminium and electrode plants in Russia, caused by sharp growth of domestic prices. From data of InfoMine, annual consumption of pitch coke in Russia decreased from 370-380 kt ton 220 kt in 2006. Notice also that, at the same time, Ukrainian pitch coke (produced by Avdeevka coal-tar chemical plant and Zaporozhcoke) became prevailing at the Russian market.
In spite of decreasing specific consumption of the pitch in production of anode paste in aluminium production, realizing projects of aluminium plants on expanding their capacities and commissioning new aluminium plants will result in increasing consumption of pitch coke. The consumption, according to InfoMine forecast, will increase by 27% by 2010 up to 680,000 tpy.
Review of feldspar market in the CIS
